This Friday, February 12, marks the beginning of the Great Backyard Bird Count! To participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count, birders of all skill levels are encouraged to get out and bird for at least 15 minutes any day during the 4-day weekend, and submit their observations to eBird. As you might have guessed from the name, the Backyard Bird Count welcomes all observations from anywhere, including (especially!) your own backyard. If you participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count any time this long weekend from February 12 – 15, please share your eBird lists with Friends of the Verde River, so we can see what wonderful birds you’ve observed in the Verde Valley. For more information about the Backyard Bird Count, head to https://www.birdcount.org/participate/.
As we prepare for the upcoming Verde Valley Birding and Nature Festival, we encourage all birding enthusiasts to spend some time this weekend identifying species. Brush up on your birding skills to get ready for the festival! We can’t wait to hear about your birding adventures.
What birds are in your backyard? Are any new species flying in as the season continues to warm? Let us know!
