Jelana Ortiz
Watershed Report Card Project Assistant
Jelana is currently studying Environmental Management at Université Lumière Lyon 2, with a focus on Socio-Ecological Systems. Her journey in community service began with the City of Phoenix as an AmeriCorps VISTA, where she was part of a team providing heat relief solutions during the challenging summer months. She has also had the opportunity to learn about environmental adaptations in rural villages through volunteer work in Mexico, Morocco, France, and Arizona. These experiences have deepened her appreciation for the resilience of communities facing environmental challenges. Jelana is proficient in French and has strong conversational skills in Spanish. She looks forward to contributing to the 2025 Watershed Report Card with Friends of the Verde River while learning from the diverse experiences of the dedicated team.
