September brings a buzz of back-to-school energy, and with it new projects for river lovers!
#PurdyVerde Trash Pickups: River lovers in the Verde Valley have noticed that many popular River Access Points and other frequented outdoor recreation spots have once again become overrun by trash. Plastic bottles, disposable masks, cigarette butts, discarded food containers, and other litter can all pose threats to wildlife, water quality, and natural beauty. Can you help us keep our river clean (#PurdyVerde!), our animals safe, and our favorite outdoor areas beautiful? Please bring a trash bag when you head outside this month! Take a picture of the garbage you collect and tag us on social with #PurdyVerde and #VerdeRiver. Check out this map for ideas of where to go.
Community Science Water Quality Monitoring: Have you ever wanted to help out our rivers while learning a few new skills? Join us for an in-person training on September 9 or 11. You’ll learn how to monitor water quality, then you’ll be assigned to a team and a site to visit semi-regularly. Your observations as a community scientist will help inform management decisions for Oak Creek and other streams. Click here to register.
