It’s that time of year again! Friends of the Verde River is giving away up to $10,000 for riverrelatedprojects to be completed by community organizations. This year will mark the 20th project funded by local businesses that participate in Friends of the Verde River programs. Last year, Friends was proud to work with both the City of Cottonwood and the Town of Clarkdale on two great community projects.
In 2019, The City of Cottonwood was awarded $5000 for the construction of the Blowout Wash Trail System. This trail will eventually connect the top of Mingus Mountain to Sedona. It will offer adventurous hiking and mountain bikingopportunities, as well as provide a commutertrail for residents that live in the surrounding communities. Locals will be able to walk all the way from residential areas into Old Town Cottonwood and down to the river.
Also in 2019, The Town of Clarkdale received$5,000 for the construction of a bathroom facility at the popular Tuzigoot River Access Point. This is a continuation of a series of improvements made to the area. Friends of the Verde River worked directly with the Town of Clarkdale on transforming this River Access Point into a popular recreation area by removing invasive species, funding the construction of a kayak dock, and now with the construction of a new bathroom.
