2014 – Water Stewardship Program, Verde Natural Resource Conservation District

One for the Verde awarded the Education Center of the Verde NRCD $2,700 to fund the Water Stewardship Program (grades 5th-8th), which educates youth about the importance of wise management of natural resources with an emphasis on water conservation. Through this program, students learn to appreciate our natural resources by understanding how they are interconnected. The Water Stewardship Program teaches students the path of a drop of water; understanding the link between ground water and surface water using an interactive computer model; which species are non-native and invading the Verde River Watershed; how to evaluate the health and quality of the river; and why the health and quality of the river affects all water users including human, agriculture, animal and industry. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to base water consumption decisions and habits on scientific data.
