CWAG Aug. 3 Prescott Council Candidate Forum
August 3 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
What are Prescott’s most important water issues? Are City Council candidates prepared to set water management policy?
Hear what City Council hopefuls have to say at the 15th annual Candidate Forum on Water Issues hosted by the Citizens Water Advocacy Group (CWAG) on Aug. 3 in the sanctuary at the Granite Peak Unitarian Universalist Congregation building, 882 Sunset Ave. in Prescott from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Candidates will be available to meet with the public at 9:30 a.m.
Mayor Greg Mengarelli, who is running unopposed for re-election, and four candidates for three open City Council seats will attend. The City Council candidates are Cathey Rusing, who is running for her first term, and incumbents Jim Lamerson, Billie Orr and Steve Sischka. The primary election is on August 27.
Conservation, long-range water sustainability, development and water supply, and plans to meet a 2025 target date for “Safe Yield,” or the balance between groundwater withdrawn and returned to aquifers through natural and artificial replenishment, are among the topics to be discussed. The series of questions for the candidates were prepared by CWAG to prompt public discussion of issues surrounding the continuing overdraft of Prescott area groundwater. The questions, which are posted on cwagaz.org, are provided to the candidates in advance of the forum. Audience members can submit written questions limited to local water concerns at the event.
CWAG is a local citizens group advocating for a sustainable water future for Prescott and central Yavapai County and for the protection of the upper Verde River. For more information, visit www.cwagaz.org, call 445-4218, or email email@example.com.
