Welcome to the 18th Annual Verde Valley Birding & Nature Festival!
VRVNO & Friends of the Verde River have merged. This is an exciting collaboration for the Birding & Nature Festival.
Friends of the Verde River does not currently have a membership program. However, all Verde Valley Birding and Nature Festival participants who were members of VRVNO will still be eligible for Early Bird Registration. Since you have paid your VRVNO membership fee, $35.00, your registration fee will be $15.00. More details will be sent to you in an email and will be on the website.
Everyone else will also have an opportunity to register early on January 29th at 6 a.m. The early registration fee is $50.00 per person. More details will be listed on our website.
The regular registration fee of $15.00 will go into effect on February 1st

The registration fee for the entire festival is $15 per person. This fee includes admission to the park, parking, access to exhibits and booths, the Thursday afternoon social, and administration costs. Field trips, guided walks, workshops, seminars and some special events have an additional fee. We have instituted a Family registration fee of $30 which includes registration for two adults plus any number of dependent children ages 6yrs to 18yrs. Children must be able to maintain appropriate birding behavior to be welcome on field trips and walks and must be accompanied by an adult unless it is a specified children’s program. We hope this will encourage your family to join us.
Beginning February 1, 2018, we will be accepting registration forms for the 2018 festival. Because of the popularity of the field trips, it is recommended that you register on-line, if possible. This is the fastest method and you can see trip availability in real time. All the information in this booklet is also found on the website. To register by mail, fill out the form attached in the center of this booklet or download the registration form from our website at www.birdyverde.org. Please note: Jan 15th is the deadline for mail-in registrations in order to be processed on Feb.1. Mailed-in forms will not guarantee you a spot. Group sizes have been kept small to assure the best possible birding experience. Be sure to register as early as possible. Pre-registration will ensure the best availability of field trips, workshops and tours. Please remember that most events have limited capacity and reservations will be filled in the order received. Reservations should be received prior to April 18, 2018. After April 18th you may register during the festival at the on-site registration booth at Dead Horse Ranch State Park. There is no registration fee when registering on-site but all trips will be $10 more than the published cost and workshops will be $5 more.

Note: You must be registered for the festival in order to attend any tour, field trip, guided walk, seminar or workshop.
As in any outdoor experience, you may encounter nature’s hazards. We recommend that you dress appropriately for the weather, wear a hat and proper footwear, use sunscreen, carry water and bring along bug repellant.
Field Trip Cancellation Policy:
The festival committee reserves the right to cancel or revise any event for any reason. If we need to revise a trip, we will try to replace it with a similar trip. If it becomes necessary to cancel a field trip, we will try to place you on an alternative trip. If there are no other trips available that you would like to attend, we will refund the entire field trip fee.
The registration fee is non-refundable.
If you change your plans and must cancel your festival reservation, you will be given a full refund minus the $15 registration fee so long as we hear from you before the end of business on April 13. Please let us know as soon as possible.
No refunds after April 13.
There are no refunds after April 13 for any reason. We post any changes, corrections or additions to the trips and workshops on our website. Although we try to contact our registered participants regarding issues that may affect them, it is the responsibility of the participant to check the website announcements for any changes and to let us know if there is a potential problem.
First come-first served. Reserve early. Most trips will fill quickly. We recommend you make your registration as soon as possible after February 1st to reserve your place.
Field trips leave from the main event area in the River Day Use area at Dead Horse Ranch State Park unless noted otherwise.
Most field trips include transportation unless noted otherwise.
Some of our trips are easy walks and others are considered strenuous. We have established a system to rate the difficulty of the trips. Please be aware of your own limitations so the field trip leader can follow their proposed itinerary. We want you and other participants to have an enjoyable experience.
Trips may require specific skills including kayaking and canoe trips. There is a weight limit of 250 lbs on these trips. We recommend that you have some knowledge of your skill and physical limitations.
Some field trips include meals or a box lunch. We supply coolers with water for all trips. You may also want to bring along additional water and snacks. It is recommended that you always carry plenty of water in the Arizona outdoors.
We will only be using re-fillable bottles for water. From now on, our registration gift will be a re-fillable bottle. You will have a choice if you want to pick it up or not. We will supply water stations on the grounds with filtered water. We will also provide extra bottles of water on the vans for trips in case someone forgets to bring theirs.
If you order a lunch with us when you register, a ticket will be in your registration packet for you to use. You must pick up your own lunch before your trip or bring your own. We encourage you to arrive at least 15 minutes before your trip leaves in order to do this.
Please sign-up for Park Walks on your registration form. There is a fee connected with the walks. The number of participants will be limited on these walks to provide you with the best possible experience.
Please sign-up for workshops/presentations on your festival registration form. Most workshops are held at the Studio at the far end of the park. Shuttles are available to take participants to the site. Shuttles will leave from the River Day Use area beginning 20 minutes prior to the start of the workshop. Try to arrive at least 5 minutes prior to departure. There are restroom facilities are in the building. We do offer limited off-site activities that require your own transportation. Please be aware of these exceptions.
Lunch and Learn:
These special workshops include a box lunch which you order during registration. You must pick up your own lunch before departing for the studio or bring your own.
Camping and Accommodations:
Check our website or contact the Cottonwood Chamber of Commerce at visitcottonwoodaz.org for information on hotels in the area. Some hotels offer discounts to festival-goers. Please ask when you make your reservations. We encourage you to check with advertisers in the booklet.
Camping is available at Dead Horse Ranch State Park. Sites include a table and grill. Water and showers are available. The park also has cabins to rent within a short walk to the River Day Use area. These must be reserved well in advance. Call the park at 928-634-5283 for cost, availability and reservations.
